| Nissar for more funds for development of STs/SCs | | |
Srinagar June 21 - Minister for Social Welfare Haji Nissar Ali today in a meeting with visiting member of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, to the state,. Tsering Samphel apprised him about difficulties being faced by state in view of shortage of development funds under "Additional Central Assistance for Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP).
Among others, the meeting was attended by Secretary Social Welfare N. K. Verma, Secretary Finance Commission Dr. Mohammad Din and Secretary Ladakh Affairs Mr. Tashi Dorji.
The Minister apprised the visiting member about various steps and measures being taken by state government to ensure upliftment of downtrodden communities including ST/SC. He further said that in view of segregated population of tribals and other communities in the state, it may not be possible to segregate sub-plan for scheduled tribes and scheduled castes, however additional central assistance is being exclusively utilized for empowerment of these communities and for undertaking development activities in the areas predominantly inhabited by them.
