IFF being organized at Srinagar from June 27

Srinagar June 21 - Emphasizing that films make an important medium for showcasing culture and traditions of the society and an important source of entertainment said the Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Cultural and Languages Dr. Rafeeq Masoodi.
He was addressing a press conference in connection with organizing of International Film Festival here today and maintained that Kashmir is fortunate enough to host the second part of first ever 2-day International Film Festival at Srinagar on 27th and 28th of this month. The first part of International Film Festival has already been hosted at Jammu on 13th and 14th of June 2007.
The Film Festival is being organized by J&K Academy of Art, Cultural and Languages in collaboration with Films Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, New Delhi.
The festival will be inaugurated by the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priyaranjan Dass Munshi.
Giving details of the festival Dr. Masoodi said that in all 28 international documentaries, short and animation films will be screened during the festival. Out of these, eight films belong to our state, 11 to rest of the states and six are from foreign countries.
Dr. Masoodi said that the festival has been designed to provide unique opportunity to the local viewers to enjoy national and international films at their own places. It will also help local short filmmakers and viewers to access the trends world over and expand the scope of creative expressions through their chosen disciplines of films making.
Hoping wide scope of employment in animation Dr. Masoodi said that the government is contemplating to open a school of animation in the state and added that in this regard technical know-how would be pursuit from Bulgaria. Institute of Fine Arts has also set up its branch one each at Jammu, Srinagar. Rs 2 crore have been sanctioned for establishment of institute at Leh, he informed.
