| Protest and effigies burning mark on either side of Tunnel | | | Jammu,June 22 Both capital towns Jammu and Srinagar showing synchronization witnessed protests and effigy burning. While Srinagar witnessed protest against the Sir title awarded to the Salman Rushdie, the Jammu witnessed protest against the screening of Miss Anara. Infact both capital towns of the state were the mute spectator to the protests, demonstrations, effigy burning and slogan shouting in Jammu and Srinagar. In Kashmir various parts responded to the call for general strike given for which the call had been given by Hizbul Mujahideen and Jamaitul Mujahideen against the award of the to title of ‘Sir’- to eminent writer Salman Rushdie who had already been in controversies for authoring ‘Sanatic Verses’. The call has virtually paralyzed the transport services in Srinagar and adjoining areas most of the shops and business establishments remained closed in protest against conferment of Knighthood on consroversial writer,Salman Rushdie by the British Government. Raising slogans against the British government and torched the effigy of Salman Rushdie and the posters of Tony Blair, British Prime Minister, and George Bush American President both in Srinagar and Jammu. In Jammu groups of Muslim youths protesting against the conferment of Knighthood on Salman Rushdie,torched poster pictures of Bush and Tony Blair in Talab Khatique area. To its contrast a series of protests in Jammu were staged by the various factions of the Shiv Sena activists against the screening of a film ‘Miss Anara” to which they cliam will end up in disturbing law and order situation. However the protesters did not force shopkeepers to pull down their shutters nor did passenger transport buses from plying on the roads.
