| Shopian to get a major facelift, says minister | | | Srinagar, June 22: The newly created Shopian district town in South Kashmir is all set to get a major facelift and the state government has already released Rs 20 lakh for the purpose, Minister of State for Roads and Buildings Mohammad Khalil Bandh said. The facelift includes renovation of all the major roads in the town, he said, adding, "several development projects are also underway to improve the socio-economic profile of the people living in the district." Bandh disclosed these at an interaction session with a delegation from Shopian, led by local MLA Ghulam Hassan Khan. "Shopian is an important township and creation of the new district will ensure further development of the area." "The coalition government is committed to upgrade the basic amenities in the state and thrust is being laid to further improve road connectivity particularly in hitherto uncovered and unattended areas," he said.
