| Upgradation of Srinagar airport boosts tourism in valley | | | SRINAGAR, JUN 22 The tourist influx in Jammu and Kashmir has increased manifold following the upgradation of Srinagar airport as international airport and completion of Qazigund and Baramulla rail link. The train service on Qazigund to Baramulla in valley will start sometime in December this year, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told the representatives of travel industry here while asking for their suggestions to boost the tourism sector in the state. He underlined the need to evolve appropriate short, medium and long-term strategies for promotion of tourism, which is the mainstay of the state's economy. Minister for Tourism Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Secretary Tourism Naeem Akhtar, Director Tourism Kashmir Farooq Ahmad Shah and other senior officers were also present. Tourism influx in the valley which was low in the early stages of year has picked up after the steps taken by tourism department to give new lease of life to the state's tourism industry, officials of tourism department said.
