Rs.30.71 cr Annual Plan for newly crafted district Reasi approved

REASI, JUNE 22
An Annual Plan of Rs.3071.56 lakh for newly carved out district Reasi including capital component of Rs.2380.87 lakh and revenue component of Rs.690.69 lakh for the year 2007-08 was approved at a District Development Board meeting convened under the chairmanship of Minister for Rural Development and Panchyati Raj Jugal Kishore Sharma at Reasi today.
Minister of State for Agriculture, Forest and Higher Education Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Member Parliament Ch Lal Singh, MLA Gulabgarh, Abdul Gani Malik, Municipal Committee President of Reasi and Katra Yashpal Verma and Mulkh Raj Prohit, District Development Commissioner Reasi Sanjeev Verma, Additional Deputy Commissioner B A Saraf, Chief Planning Officer Z A Bandey, Assistant Commissioner Revenue B S Jamwal, provincial heads of Engineering, Agriculture and allied departments besides district heads attended the meeting.
Complimenting the Legislatures, Board members, Councilors and officers for holding DDB meeting at Reasi for the first time, Jugal said that people particularly inhabiting in far-flung and under developed hilly areas of Gulabgarh, Mahore, Arnas and Bhamagh have high expectations for early redressal of their problems from the administration. It has now become a foremost responsibility of district administration to come upto their expectations by adopting double shift scheme wherever necessary to complete the projects in a stipulated time frame, the Minister asserted.
Terming the decision of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad of granting district status to Reasi, a historical step, Jugal said that long pending demand of Reasi people has been fulfilled. District Reasi is predominantly hilly area having less literacy percentage, yet there is vast scope of horticulture and pilgrim tourism potential as a number of tourist places like Shiv Khori, Baba Dhansar, Sehad Baba, Thanpal, Dera Baba Banda Bahadur, Sala-Hydro electric project exist here which need prior attention for their development to attract more and more visitors to raise the economy and generate employment avenues for locals. The coalition government has chalked out multi-pronged strategies to explore and develop places of tourist interest to boost economy in the state, he maintained.
Aijaz Ahmed Khan said that after fulfillment of cherished dream of district status for Reasi, the district administration should now gird up its lions in providing speedy justice to the people especially living in remote and hilly areas so that such under developed areas which still lack, basic amenities of life like roads, electricity, drinking water and health care facilities etc could avail all facilities. He stressed upon the officers to achieved physical targets in a fixed time frame to the entire satisfaction of the people.
Member Parliament Ch Lal Singh stressed upon the officers to implement centrally sponsored schemes in letter and spirit by making judicious utilization of funds with focus on poverty alleviation programmes so that poor could not be deprived of their due right. He called for furnishing of utilization certificates to DDC of the schemes related to their respective departments in time so that more funds be got sanctioned for under execution or new schemes.
Delineating the sector-wise physical targets for the year 2007-08, the DDC said that 270 quintals HYV seeds would be distributed among farmers to cover 42378 hectares area, 75000 fruit plants to be planted under Technology Mission-II, 61000 plantations under Social Forestry in community and wastelands, 520 hectares are to be brought under irrigation, construction of 12.85 kms fair weather roads, 5.50 kms road length to be blacktopped, 1 kms each to be shingled and metalled, electrification of 431 left out hamlets and providing drinking water facilities to 240 hamlets etc.
