SPIC-MACAY promises to meet at Kohima in 2008

Ongoing celebrations of the SPIC-MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) festival to mark its 30th Anniversary organized its 22nd National Convention at University of Jammu. The convention recalled contributions of late Shehnai mastero Bismillah Khan and dedicated the occasion to him.
The festivity that started on the June 18, is expected to conclude on June 23 has opened a new chapter of culture and art traditions. Eminent artists and singers with national and international repute have assembled in this Maha Khumb of artists. During the today’s occasion the eminent artists interacted with the students of Jammu University and the local artists. The talks with Smt. Nayana Kanodia (Painting) and Smt. Padma Sachdev (Dogri Literature) envisioned the delegates about the intricacies of Painting and Dogri literature respectively.
During ongoing festivity various workshops were organized for the delegates coming from different parts of the country. The workshops are being conducted by the leading exponents of respective art forms.
Worth to mention that the various workshops were conducted under the able guidance of luminaries Purulia Chau, Kalamkari (Guruppa Chetty), Puppetry (Sudip and Smt. Sreeparno Gupta), Dhrupad vocal (Ustad R. Fahimuddin Dagar), Khayual vocal (Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan), Kathak (Vidushi Shashwati Sen), Kathakali (Guru Kalamandalam Gopi and Guru Kalamandalam, Raman Kutty Nair.) Yoga, Shankhavadyam (Purushottam Muni), Painting (Smt. Nayana Kanodia) and Pattachitra (Dinabandhu Mohapatra) in their respective fields during the celebrations of 22nd Convention of SPIC-MACAY organized at Jammu University.
SPIC MACAY has been working for the savior of the ancient traditional arts and culture since its inception in 1961, speakers hoped that this will continue to work for the same goal with similar dedication.
