Awakening: Jammu legislators lobby for separate directorates
6/23/2007 12:11:47 AM

Jammu, June 22: With some amount of consciousness in the region for efficiency in administrative works, a demand for separate directorates of different key departments is fast gaining currency.
Almost all legislators of Jammu district who attended the meeting of District Development Board here the previous day vociferously raised demand for creation of separate directorates for Industries and Commerce, Information and Floriculture for Jammu province.
It may be mentioned here that most of the important departments have a single directorate which moves with the Darbar and thus people in each region have to suffer for six months when the government is in the other capital
In recent years, the Government had bifurcated into two separate directorates the departments of Tourism and Social Welfare. These departments too used to move with the secretariat but bifurcation made things little comfortable for the people.
Now a demand is fast coming up for bifurcation of the departments of Information, Industries and Floriculture. These three department finding their increased public interference still continue to move with the secretariat –six months in the each capital. Serious problem has been arising due to the move of the Directorate of Industries as for every petting clearance, the industrialists have to rush to three hundred kilometers to reach the directorate. This problem is equally faced with the entrepreneurs of Kashmir as well as Jammu regions.
Heeding to the demand of industrialists and entrepreneurs of Kashmir, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had promised while addressing a function organised by the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, that department of industries shall be bifurcated into two separate directorates for Jammu and Kashmir divisions. However, an official action is yet to be taken on this announcement.
