| Srinagar North SP escaped bid in life | | |
Srinagar, June 22: The Superintendent of Police, Srinagar North, today escaped a militant bid on life whereas in another incident security forces foiled an infiltration attempt last night. In other militancy related incident, ultras also carried out a grenade attack on a CRPF party, while bodies of four persons including two unidentified insurgents were recovered and two hideouts busted leading to the recovery of 35 kg of explosives in the state, a police spokesman said. Superintendent of Police, North, Bashir Ahmad Khan escaped unhurt when unidentified militants hurled a grenade on his motorcade at Chattipadshahi in Srinagar this evening. The grenade exploded on the roadside after missing the intended target without causing any casualty. Khan, when contacted, said he was moving in his armoured vehicle when the ultras hurled the grenade. The whole area was immediately cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants responsible for the attack. The spokesman said militants hurled a grenade towards a CRPF patrolling party at Hanjiveera-Palhallan in Pattan, 27 km from here, this afternoon but the explosive missed the intended target and exploded in an open field without causing any damage. An army jawan was injured when militants attempting to sneak into this side from across the border opened fire on troops on being confronted near the Line of Control in Mankote area of Poonch district last night. He said a search operation was on in the area and further details are awaited. Decomposed bodies of two unidentified militants were recovered by army during patrolling near the LoC in Uri sector of North Kashmir last evening, the spokesman said. The militants had apparently died of a snow avalanche while trying to sneak into the valley from across the border during the winter months. Two AK assault rifles and some ammunition were recovered alongwith the bodies. The body of an unidentified person was fished out from a stream in Karnah sector of Kupwara district. Body of one more person was recovered from Drubgan forest in Shopian district today, he said. Security forces arrested Lashker-e-Toiba militant Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh alias Moulvi from his village at Rampora in Kulgam district and recovered a hand grenade and some incriminating documents at his instance. In a major seizure, army troops recovered 25 kg explosive, one pistol, six hand grenades, one remote control device, two RPG rockets and 493 rounds from Badgam district. Army troops also recovered a pistol, an UBGL and 10 kg explosive from Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district. In another major recovery, the spokesman said, security forces busted a hideout at Doorimal in Rajouri district which led to the recovery of five kg explosive, a silencer and 12 grenades of various types. Another hideout was smashed at Ganjna top in Arnas sector of Reasi district which led to the recovery of two UBGL grenades and two wireless sets, he said.
