APHC leadership fear fresh Indo-Pak armed conflict
6/26/2007 12:14:03 AM

Jammu, June 25
Leadership of All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) is a worried lot as it fears that if the ongoing peace process and Kashmir resolution dialogue between Delhi and Islamabad chances of a fresh conflict between the two sides could surface again.
A senior leader of the APHC, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, said today “we have fears that the ceasefire on the border may become an event of history and the India-Pakistan conflict may assume new dimensions if the two sides failed to carry the ongoing Kashmir resolution dialogue to its logical conclusion.” He said each side” is testing one another’s patience and no wonder one side may lost patience leading to the revival of the old conflict.”
In reply to a question Prof. Bhat said “time has come for Delhi and Islamabad to demonstrate flexibility and sincerity while hammering out a solution to the Kashmir problem.” He said “we feel that Delhi has decided to ignore us. It is their sweet will but we wish to remind India and Pakistan that those who represent the aspirations of people of Kashmir need to be taken into confidence when the two sides reach a settlement on the core issue of Kashmir.”
The APHC leader said that “there is equally a need for the two sides to realize that another armed conflict between India and Pakistan will not be on the pattern of 1947,1965 and 1971.It will be a nuke war in the midst of heavy exchange of missile fire.” He added “God forbid if it happened the result is likely to be nothing else but death and destruction on a massive scale.” “Avoid it by going in for serious, purposeful and result-oriented bilateral or trilateral talks,”He said.
Prof. Bhat said at present number of agencies and countries were trying to mediate between India and Pakistan. Many a nations were trying to fish in the troubled waters “Why should not India and Pakistan take the initiative on their own so that neither Islamabad nor Delhi came under pressure from any super power ?”He asked.
In reply to another question the senior separatist leader said “despite having ignored our sincere suggestion on initiating measures for bringing Delhi and Islamabad closer we are still prepared to accept an invitation from Delhi whenever it opts for resuming the dialogue with us”he said (KIP)
