Residents of border villages hold protest against distt admn, GRF authority

Rajouri, May 21: Residents of border villages in Ghmabir area in Manjakot tehsil of Rajouri district held protest demonstration against district administration and GREF authorities for their casual approach to their demand of constriction of bridge on border road at Ghambir Brahmna.
They also blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for more than 3 hours shouting slogans against both the authorities.
Zakir Iqbal, advocate Zaffar Iqbal, Mohd Akbar, naib sarpanch, Tunditrar, and demanded bridge for the last more than 65 year General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) as well as State government have failed to construct a bridge on very important border road at Ghambir Brahmna in Manjakot tehisl in Rajouri district.
"More than 50000 inhabitants of these border villages including school children and government employees as well as officers/soldiers manning the border have been facing many difficulties to cross the river in the absence of bridge" said Zakir Iqbal.
Mohammad Qayoom, sarpanch said, "This important road from Ghambir Brahmna (touching Jammu-Poonch highway) connects border road that connects Lam with Bhimber Gali in Poonch district after passing between LoC and Fence and is very important on security point of view, " he stated and adding that as both GREF and State Government didn't pay any importance for the construction of this bridge,people of the area as well as security personnel facing many problems for the last many years.
On getting information of people's protest, Hamid Choudhry, deputy SP (HQs), Saheen Mirza, SDPO, Manjakot and Amir Rather, Tehsildar rushed to Ghambir Brahmna. On the assurances of Tehsildar people lifted the dharna but warned the authorities to organise large scale protest demonstration if the work for the construction of the bridge was not started within 15 days, said Zakir Iqbal,
When contacted Amir Rather, tehsildar said that the GREF has already begin the work for raising a pillar and they have been directed to expedite the construction work to the satisfaction of the people.
