| Deputation of Dalit Christians calls on Chairman NCSC | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 22: A deputation of Dalit Christians called Chairman National Commission for Schedule Castes (SC), here today and apprised him about the problems being faced by Dalit Christian community in getting government jobs, admission colleges and professional institutions. The deputation led by Secretary PCC Thomas Khokhar while interacting with the Chairman National Commission and Spokesperson AICC, P L Punia said that the National Commission for Scheduled Castes has recommended that the Dalit Christians should be given benefit of SC Category besides Rangnath Mishra Commission recommended for religious and linguistic minorities status to the community. Justice Rajinder Sachar (Sachar Commission) had also recommended that the benefit of SC must be given to Dalit Christian. But, it was unfortunate that reservation facilities have not been extended to the Dalit Christians of Jammu and Kashmir. They requested Punia that their grievance may be taken up with the Central and State Governments and their genuine demand may be redressed. Punia gave them patient hearing and assured them that their demand for SC status will be taken up at the appropriate forum. |
