91 illegal wooden scants seized, five different FIRs registered

Kishtwar, May 22: Continuing its drive against the forest theft and timber smuggling, Doda Police conducted series of raids in Tehsil Chiralla and seized 91 illicit wodden scants and also registered five separate FIRs against the accused persons.
POlice sources said, "Addl SP Bhaderwah Amit Bhasin along with SDPO Bhaderwah and SHO PS Thathri conducted series of raids in Tehsil Chiralla and seized illicit timber." "Acting on specific information, Police Party under the whole supervision of SSP Doda Zahid Naseem Manhas conducted raids at villages Gosti, Zilapani and Sheikhpora of Tehsil Chiralla and seized 06 Cedar scants from the house of Abdul Razak Batt S/o Sikander Batt R/o Gosti and FIR No. 32/2015 under section 379 RPC, 6 Forest Act stands registered, police said adding in another similar raid 10 cedar sleepers from the house of Talib Hussain S/o Dina Bhat R/o Zilapani and FIR No. 33/2015 under section 379 RPC, 6 Forest Act stands registered."
Meanwhile 22 sleepers of Pine tree and 05 scants of cedar were recovered from the house of Zarief Malik S/o Suban Malik R/o Zilapani and FIR No. 34/2015 stands registered while 22 scants of Pine tree were recovered from the house of Khursheed Ahmed S/o Gh Mohd. Batt R/o Gosti and FIR No. 35/2015 under section Forest Act stands registered against accused.
Police sources said, "Yet ion another raid 26 scants of Pine tree from the house of Tariq Sheikh S/o Mohammad Hanief Sheikh R/o Sheikhpora and FIR No 36/2015 stands registered at PS Thathri." Sources said that the accused have concealed the green gold (cedar) in their houses for personal gain/smuggling purpose. "Besides, five FIRs pertaining to timber smuggling stands already been registered at Police Station Thathri few days back." Pertinent to mention here that the general public of district Doda has pointed out the issue of deforestation and illegal timber smuggling in different PCPG meetings organized by Doda Police. Meantime Addl SP Bhaderwah/SDPO Bhaderwah also conducted a 'police public' meet at village Gosti and sensitized the participants about the value of green gold. He also urged them if they have any information about the forest theft/timber smugglers, same may be shared with Police so that action under law should be initiated against them.
