| Police officer stops work on religious place | | | Jammu | June 25 Misusing his official position, a senior police officer has stopped construction of a religious place located near Bari Brahmana on Jammu- Pathankot Highway and has threatened the caretaker, who has been looking after the Ziarat of Peer Babi, of dire consequences if the work on this religious place was taken up without his prior permission. According to reports the construction work was going on at the Ziarat of Peer Baba near Purmandal Morh area for some days past and even the authorities maintaining the National Highway had given their go ahead. According to the reports, the place is being visited by a large number of devotees every day, especially on Thursdays, to pay their obeisance and for the connivance of the devotees, the care taker had taken up the construction work of a minor nature at the site as the existing structure was in dilapidated condition The care taker said that the Ziarat is very old and needs repairs and renovation as it got damaged due to the widening of the National Highway. The inhabitants of the area along with the care taker have expressed their surprise over the manner in which the senior police officer has stopped the work on the site without assigning any reasons thereto. The uncalled for action of the ‘men in Khaki’ has astonished many and raises several eye brows. Apart from this, it has hurt the religious sentiments of the people of all faiths, who equally revered Peer Baba with greet esteem and used to visit the area to pay their obeisance.
