| Salim Geelani’s statement on KPs, a surprise change: RIK | | |

Commenting on the recent statement of Salim Geelani, Spokesperson for Hurriyat (Mirwaiz faction), in which the Hurriyat has apologized to the Kashmiri Pandit community and also called occupation of properties of Kashmiri Pandits as Un Islamic, Roots In Kashmir (RIK) said, though the statement albeit late, ‘is a surprise change in Hurriyat Policy’, which till date had not admitted the role of the "jehadis" in victimization and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. Through this statement Hurriyat has admitted that the Kashmiri Pandit community has been wronged and hence tendered an apology on behalf of the majority community.
RIK wishes to take the whole affair forward where the confidence of Kashmiri Pandits would be built and wants that the statement of Hurriyat Spokesperson be proven on the ground level as well.
In a press statement issued here today, the RIK said that in case the Hurriyat is sincere towards the KP’s, who have been uprooted by the armed militants, it should accept and follow the three point plan envisaging re-building of at least 15 different temples across the valley, to begin with, the list of these temples be provided by Roots In Kashmir. These 15 temples are among hundred of temples destroyed in last 17 years.
It also asks Hurriyat that the killers of Kashmiri Pandits be bought to Justice and it should join the movement of RIT and jointly demand action against at least Yasin Malik and Bitta Karate (Farooq Ahmed Dar). This action would go in a big way to infuse confidence in Kashmiri Pandits.
In addition, the properties of Kashmiri Pandits, encroached upon by unscrupulous elements, be restored back to the owners, including the orchards
The statement further said that once these demands are fulfilled, both Pandits and Muslims can sit across the table to discuss further the confidence measures.
RIK believes that the Hurriyat would take these three proposals seriously, which in a big way, would pave the path of Confidence Building Measures.
‘The RIK purpose is to help move out of the dark chamber of horrors into the light, to find a way by which the minds of men, the hopes of men, the souls of men everywhere, can move forward towards peace, happiness and well-being’, the statement added..
