| Governor visits Hemis Gumpa | | |
Leh | June 25 The annual Mela of Hemis Gumpa was celebrated with full religious fervor here today. Thousands of devotees including foreign tourists witnessed the festival including Lama Mask dances amidst chanting of mantras. The mask dance symbolizes the teaching of Lard Budha and portrays triumph over the evils. Governor Gen (Retd) S.K Sinha, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion paid obeisance at the Gumpa and prayed for peace in the state and witnessed the Lama Mask dance. Later, theGovernor had the Darshan of Thiksay Monetary a 55 feet tall statue of lord Maitriya (Coming Buddha), the main attraction of the Gompa. Governor also visited of Sindhu Ghat near Shay and interacted with tourists who had come to feel the touch of the water of Sindhu Ghat. Earlier, the Governor was given accorded a warm reception in Ladakhi traditional colour when he reached Leh on a 2-day visit. He was received at the airport among others by GOC, 14 Corps Lt. Gen. P.C. Bhardwaj, Executive Councilor, Education Tsering Norboo Lampa, Deputy Commissioner, Leh Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari and SSP Leh Alok Kumar.
