| Fruits, vegetables sellers call off strike, hail government decision | | |
Jammu | June 25 Jammu Fruit Association and Jammu Fruit and Vegetable Association have hailed the decision of the Government to defer the implementation of Agriculture Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act for a period of two months. On the call of Jammu Fruit and Vegetable Associations the entire fraternity went on indefinite strike to protest the implementation of Agriculture Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act by the authorities which was likely to create hindrance, hardships and problems to the traders belonging to this trade and was also likely to make the products costlier for the consumers. On the personal intervention and the directions of the Chief Minister, a meeting of the association members led by President Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ram Sahai was arranged with the Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing here today. The Director has conveyed the government decision to the deputation deferring the implementation of the Act for the time being. In the meeting it was decided that government being finalizing and amending the said Act would take the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the concerned Trade bodies into confidence. Others, who accompanied Sahai were, D.K. Suri, V.K. Gandotra Presidents of both the associations. Brij Mohan Gulati, Parveen Kumar Gupta, Jagmohan Puri, Ravinder Malhotra, Rajesh Gupta, Sham Langer and Ashwani Sharma.
