Complete electrification of Leh, Kargil villages by 2009: Jora

Srinagar, June 25
- All the un-electrified villages and hamlets of Leh and Kargil districts would be electrified under Rajiv Gandhi Gramen Vidyutikarn Yojana (RGGVY) and APDRP schemes by 2009 for which the projects stand already sanctioned.
This was stated by the Minister for Power Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora while interacting with deputations from Kargil and Drass areas here today.
Prominent among the deputations were Executive Councilor Mr. Nasseer Munshi, Congress leader from Drass Mr. Mohammad Yaseen, Mr. Abdul Wahab and Mr. Talib.
The Minister said that during the recent visit of Union Power Minister Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde and Union Power Secretary Mr. Rajdhan, he discussed various issues regarding power scenario in the state. To strengthen the transmission and distribution system in Leh and Kargil the liberal funding has been made by the Central Government, he added.
Expressing satisfaction over pace of work on Chhuttak and Nimoo- Bazgo Hydel Project's, the Minister said that the projects would be commissioned as per schedule. He said that these two mega projects of Ladakh region were taken up as a special case in view of the keen interest shown by UPA Chairperson and Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad that.
The deputationists projected a charter of demands and requested for creation of requisite number of staff for Marpochu, Haftal, Igoo Martselang, Bazgo, Hunder hydel projects so that the benefits percolate to the people of the areas expeditiously
