| War Memorial inaugurated | | |

A War Memorial in the honour of gallant soldiers of 8 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Battalion was inaugurated by Brigadier A Chakravarty, VSM, Commander Kalidhar Brigade at Laleali. 8 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Battalion fought against heavy odds and repulsed repeated attacks of Pakistan Armed Forces for five days during the 1971 war. The brave soldiers of the battalion fought with extreme valour and ferocity, thereby foiling any attempt by Pakistan armed forces to capture any Indian territory. The battalion was awarded two Battle Honours namely ‘Laleali’ and ‘picket 707’. Commemorating the supreme sacrifice of the men, Commander Kalidhar Brigade and Commanding Officer Laleali Battalion laid wreath at the memorial. The ceremony was attended by the ex-servicemen who had participated in 1971 war at Laleali, serving soldiers and Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Bana Singh (Retired), Param Vir Chakra of 8 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Battalion, said a PIB (Defence Wing) release
