The sweltering heat in the Indian plains has come as a relief to the otherwise dull tourist season in Kashmir. The entire Northern India is witnessing a steep rise in the mercury which has forced the people to visit the valley.
"The number of tourist inflow in Kashmir is rising with the each passing day which has given the people related to the tourist trade a new lease of life. The enthusiasm among Kashmiris is eminent from the sizeable number of tourists visiting various tourist places." said one elderly shikarawala Muhammad Shaban.
Despite the spell of heat in the valley the city of Srinagar is bustling with activities. The evening life which was non existent till recently is also witnessing a sea change. The locals can be seen enjoying in the evenings on the boulevard and the adjoining areas giving every evening a festive look.
Sanjay Panday a Delhi based businessman said" I have come to the valley for the third time and every year there is something new to experience here. I had come to cool myself but amazingly the scorching sun is following me here also."
According to the tourist department official, there is hope for the future as the bookings in July and August are more than expected. "We are fully prepared for the forthcoming tourist rush. We have renovated and refurbished our infrastructure so that we could cater to the coming guests from outside." said a hoteliar Gawhar Maqbool.
The pilgrimage tourism is also picking up with the Amarnath Yatra commencing in few days. There has been record number of pilgrims who have registered themselves. The recently concluded mela khir bawani witnessed a large number of pandit migrant pilgrims from various parts of the country.
The coming days it seems are good for the people of kashmir and particularly for the tourist related traders. "Every year we had great start but unfortunately every time incidents took place which resulted in the premature end to the promising tourist season. This time we are very much hopeful of a good season." said Muzaffar Ahmad a houseboat owner.
