| J K Dutt is new Chief of NSG | | | New Delhi, Aug 10 : Special Director of the CBI Jyoti Krishan Dutt was today appointed as the new Director General of elite National Security Guards which had been headless for quite sometime now.
The name of Dutt, an IPS Officer of 1971 batch of West Bengal Cadre for the elite force, was cleared by the Appiontments' Committee of Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, an official spokesman said.
Dutt has served in various posts in the CBI and the CISF. He was associated with the investigation of a number of sensitive cases, entrusted to CBI.
A Post Graduate in History from Delhi University, he has been decorated with the Police Medal for Gallantry, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service .
The post had been lying vacant after Aashish Kumar Mitra was shifted as Special Secretary (Internal Security) last year and was being additionally looked after by him and later by G S Rajgopal.
Set up in 1984 as a Federal Contingency Deployment Force to tackle all facets of terrorism in the country, the primary tasks of the NSG were to engage and neutralise terrorist threats, undertake counter hijack operations and undertake hostage rescue missions besides providing protection to designated high risk VIPs.
The additional responsibilities are to check anti-sabotage check of places of National importance and Functions, beef up security in Delhi, maintenance of National Bomb Data Centre, conduct Bomb Disposal and Post Blast Investigation. |
