| Harshdev demands month long session of state legislature | | | Jammu June 27-Demanding holding of the proposed Assembly session in Srinagar at least for a month, Former Minister and National Panthers Party MLA Harshdev Singh alleged that Government had been trying each time to hold brief sessions only to fulfill the mandatory requirements of law. Saying that the sessions were deliberately held for a short duration only to avoid and evade queries of the legislators and to conceal its failure, Harshdev has appealed the Governor to intervene so as to ensure that the highest democratic institution of the state functions in consonance with the national standards and the proceedings therein conducted for at least 100 days. ‘Non compliance with the national standards on the subject’, Harshdev alleged that the government was shying away from discussing its own performance and thereby trying to conceal its acts of omission and commission besides admitting its own failures to deliver and to perform. He said there are very important issues for discussion in the house including non fulfillment of the assurances given in the House, breach of privileges of members, contempt of legislature committed by the Ministers and bureaucrats, non performance of the government on several fronts and non implementation of CMP, besides injustice to Jammu region, which require thorough debate and the demand for holding the session for at least 100 days is imperative, he added.
