Hakeem finalized transport arrangements for Amarnath yatris

Srinagar June 27
State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) has chalked out an elaborate action plan for transportation of Amarnathji bound yatris from Jammu to Phalgam and Baltal.
This was stated at a high-level review meeting chaired by the Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, here today. The meeting discussed the implementation of the action plan and also took stock of the functioning of SRTC.
Speaking in the meeting Hakim Yaseen stated that 120 buses would be pressed into service for transportation of yatris from June 30. For the purpose the SRTC has set up round the clock booking counters at M. A. Stadium, TRC booking office, Railway booking office and General bus stand in Jammu city. He said for return journey bookings from Pahalgam and Baltal would also start immediately. Other issues to make the yatra services more comfortable were also discussed in the meeting.
The Minister while reviewing the over all functioning of the Corporation, said that it has earned a revenue of Rs. 12.50 crore during the month of April and May 2007 by operating 1192 vehicles across the state including 144 buses which are being operated from Jammu to other northern states of the country. He underlined the need for revitalizing the SRTC so that safe transport facilities are provided to the people in the state. He said government would provide budgetary support of Rs. 17 crore to the corporation during the current fiscal year to strengthen the functioning and infrastructure of the corporation.
Hakeem Yaseen emphasized for mobilization of all available resources of the corporation for generating revenue. He said unless the corporation stands on its, own legs it would not survive. He directed for computerizing all the records of the corporation and asked the corporation to perform operation report of buses and truck services on daily basis, which he said would be monitored by him personally.
Transport Minister stressed on the officers and employees of the corporation to adopt work culture and honest administrative management in the corporation to make it profitable. He said departmental purchase committee would be revived so that purchasing system is made more transparent. He said three teams of officers would be constituted which would monitor the functioning of the corporation adding that the teams would function directly under his control.
Secretary Transport/Transport Commissioner Mr. Dalip Singh, Managing Director SRTC Mr. G.N. Sofi, Joint Managing Director SRTC Mr. Yogesh Koul and senior functionaries of the SRTC also attended the meeting.
