| Chinj mela at Bani concludes | | Mangat, Aziz distributes awards among participants | |
KATHUA, JUNE 27
A 3-days Chinj Mela jointly organized by Pahari Culture Manch Bani and Chinj Mela committee Bani concluded here today.
Minister of Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma was the chief guest while Minister of State for Finance Mr. Prem Sagar Aziz presided over.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sharma complimented the people for successfully organizing the Chinj mela and appreciated the artists for their performance in cultural programme. He recalled the efforts of Late Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi in developing the socio-economic status of Basohli-Bani- Bhaderwah area. He said that the coalition government headed by Chief Minister Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad has taken various effective measures to explore tourism potential in Bani-Sarthal- Bhadarwah to bring it on tourism map.
Advising youth to shun bad habits like drinking, smoking etc and channelise their energy towards sports and other creative activities. He said that this would improve their physical and mental status. He appreciated Mr. Aziz for his efforts to develop the Bani town and urged all political parties to cooperate with government machinery for the development of Bani Tehsil.
He also appreciated Mr. Jaswant Lal Sondhi a social worker who was the master mind behind organizing this mega mela. Mr Aziz paid rich tribute to Late Mr. Mohd. Sherief Girdawar who was the founder of Pahari Culture Manch Bani. The Pahari Culture Manch right from his inception 8 years ago is playing key role in cultural activities during the Chinj mela. He said that demand for degree college at Bani will be conceded at the earliest.
Both the Minister distributed eight cash prizes amounting to Rs. 21,000 among the local cultural troupes and a bravery award to Mohd. Irfan a resident of Barmota (Bani) who saved the life of a drowning girl and announced the final prize color TV for Dangal at Bani from his pocket.
Earlier at Bani, both the Minister also listened to the public grievances and directed all the officers to solve their problems on priority.
Among others Ex-Deputy Speaker Mr Gulam Haider Malik, SDM Bani Ravi Kant Verma, SDPO Basohli, all the officers of various departments, prominent citizens, political leaders of various parties and thousands of people were present on the occasion
