| Attempted suicide after being allegedly harassed by teachers | | Class 10th student of Nowshera school dies | | Early Times Report
RAJOURI, June 6: A class 10th student of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Nowshera had lost struggle for life after 13 days in GMC hospital at Jammu as he had attempted suicide after allegedly being harassed by a history (NCC in-charge) and mathematics teachers. Lalit Kumar, who attempted suicide at his rented house at Nowshera town was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) at Jammu and was under observation in ICU where he breathed his last on Friday. As the news of Lalit's death reached Nowshera, a pall of gloom engulfed entire town and with tears in eyes hundreds of people received the body at about 8 pm. SDM Harbans Lal, SDPO Sargun Shukla, BJP MLA Ravinder Raina and Tehsildar Nowshera were among prominent people who visited the house and expressed their condolences with the aggrieved family members. Lalit, son of Shiv Vardhan, originally a resident of Uttar Pradesh, is presently working as electrician at Nowshera for the last about 30 years. Lalit had attempted suicide in a rented room when her sister was on way to school to enquire about the harassment by the teachers and parents were in Uttar Pradesh. Immediately after suicide attempt by Lalit, his sister Neeru reached the house, who with the help of neighbours shifted Lalit to Sub District Hospital and was later referred to GMC&H. Neeru, informed that he was being harassed by two teachers namely Gurcharan Singh, History teacher (also NCC in-charge) and Ajay Kumar on an issue of payment to a photographer. Today inhabitants of Nowshera kept the body of Lalit at main chowk and raised slogans against teachers, tehsil administration. They also demanded compensation for the poor family and arrest of the teachers. Rakesh Kumar, Additional SP assured the people that soon a case will be lodged against the teachers after recording the statement of Lalit's sister and also assured professional and transparent investigation and suitable compensation. Pertinently Nowshera police has sent investigating officer to GMC&H at Jammu thrice to record the statement of Lalit but couldn't as he was in critical condition and was on life supporting system. |
