Jammu, June 28: Peoples in the winter capital city may have forgotten the sensational Chopra murder case, but for sons of the slain business tycoon life is a nightmare ever after even though there is no word from the investigating agencies about the culprits who cut the story of top business leader short.
A look at the murder case of cement tycoon Rajinder Bhushan Chopra alias Raju Chopra and his family members September last year, make one fee that no body is safe in this city of temples. Even though the criminals have a filed day to play, as the Chopra murder story suggests, the investigating agencies have not been able to show the capability of getting the culprits to book. Around nine months have passed since Raju Chopra and his family members were killed but the Police are yet to come up with a “believable” clue.
The sad side of the story, however, is the plight of Raju Chopra’s sons. Rohit and Puneet, two young sons of Chopra and his only heir apparent are now living a life full of worries and uncertainties.
Since they had a large empire, left by their father, to manage, therefore security of their life has been of paramount concern. There have always been apprehensions that those killed Chopra for extracting money or may be some rivalry may also put the life of his sons into danger.
To protect their lives, the Chopra sons were provided with four personal security officials –two with each brother. Their bodyguards are, ironically less a protective shield for the hapless boys and more of a headache. They are either on leave or trailing the footprints of Chopra sons.
Interestingly, one of them Vipin Singh had proceeded on leave in February and the Police are yet to send a replacement at the residence of Chopras. We approached everyone from District Police Lines to the senior officers but the PSO on leave is yet to be replaced, said a worried son of Chopra while talking to this reporter.
Sources said that whosoever visits Puneet and Rohit, is later followed and traced by Police. It simply makes out that the guards on their protection duty have less to do with protection and more concerned they are about surveillance. The routine visitors after being traced are question about what transpired during the meeting. Even acquaintances, relatives, friends or professional associates visiting Chopra sons are being questioned by the Police. Recently a business consultant refused to see Chopra sons at their residence without giving them any reason. However, when later pursued by the sons he informed that each time he visits them the Police questions him about the details of the discussion. “I feel harassed”, the business consultant said when asked about.
When contacted a senior Police officer, who has remained associated with the investigations for some times, refused to confirm any such questioning of the visitors. However, on being pressed hard he confirmed but justified the reasons. “We want to solve the mystery and out of such conversations we expect some clues”, said the Police officer.
