| Flood plays havoc, Red alert sounded | | 1000 livestock washed away, 25 people rescued, air force called for help | |

At least one thousand domestic animals and dozens of kuchcha houses are reported to have been washed away in border district Rajouri this afternoon due to the flood which created havoc in the district. As many as 25 people were rescued, by the civil and army rescue teams, who were stranded at different places in the middle of the rivers in Thananmandi, Dahhal, and Muradpur areas. The civil administration has also called the army choppers for the rescue operation besides sounding red alert in the district. The people inhabiting along the Rajouri river have also been evacuated and shifted to safer places. Giving details, sources said, at least 1000 domestic animals and dozens of houses have been washed away in the floods this afternoon in Thanamandi, Darhal, Budhal, and Nowshehra areas of the district. While 25 people stranded in the rivers at different places were rescued by the civil and army rescue teams involved in the operation. Some of the rescue operations were personally monitored by Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rafiq Ahmed Shaikh. The army Choppers were also pressed in to service to rescue the people stranded in the rivers at some places where the ground teams could not approach. Speaking to this correspondent Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rafiq Ahmed Shaikh, said that at least 25 people have been rescued by the civil and army teams so far, “however, it was not yet clear that how many people are stranded at different places. Now we have called army choppers to help in the rescue operations. There are reports of washing away hundreds of domestic animals in the flood but no human causality has been reported so far . A red alert has been sounded in the district and all the civil and army forces have been asked to be ready for any challenge of flood”, said Deputy Commissioner Rafiq Ahmed Shaikh. Shaikh also informed that the situation was grim and nothing can be said at this stage about the loss. However, there were rumours of many people washing away in the floods but the confirmation of these rumours was still awaited as most of the areas have also lost connectivity due to the floods. The sudden flood erupted this afternoon in Thanamandi and Darhal rivers of Rajouri district after one and half hour continues rain. At least 12 people were rescued by the rescue teams from Thanamandi river while six people were rescued from Darhal river. These both the rescue operations were personally monitored by Deputy Commissioner Rafiq Shaikh. While all the civil officers were dispatched to the different places for rescue arrangements and all were still on the job till the last reports came in. Mean while, District Administration ordered the evocation of Bela colony Rajouri which comprises about 3000 families located at the banks of Rajouri River. The authorities have asked the residents to move the safer places till the water level of the river comes down . The rescue operation was continue and the army choppers were flying over the nook and corner of the district till late this evening.
