| Samphel reviews tribal sub plan development | | |

Member, National Commission for Schedule Tribe, Tsering Samphel today reviewed the developmental activities in Leh taken under Tribal Sub-Plan in a meeting held today.
He said that there are many central schemes for the benefit of the people of Schedule Tribe category but due to lack of information these benefit were not availed. He suggested that a high-level awareness camp should be conducted in Leh.
Interacting with district officers Samphel said that 700 different ethnic communities with a population of 8.34 crore comes under the schedule Tribe category and enjoy its benefits, which include eight communities from Ladakh. He said that he would try his best to bring Brokpa Community under primitive Tribal Group for preserving their distinct primitive culture. Beside there are many avenues for the educated youths belonging to the Schedule Tribe Category for post metric scholarships.
On the occasion Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mandeep Bhandari requested Samphel to send a compendium of the different schemes of the Schedule Tribe. Bhandari assured that a grand awareness camp would be conducted in Leh for dissemination of information about various avenues of the Schedule Tribe.
Earlier DDC gave detail information about various schemes being carried in Leh under Tribal Sub-Training center for women and a Working Women Hostel is under construction in Leh under Tribal Sub-Plan.
