| CJM rejects bail of member in fake currency racket | | | JAMMU, JUNE 29 Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu, Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, rejected bail application of Puran Chand s/o Harbans Lal r/o Patta-Polura, a member of fake currency racket, who circulated Rs 30,000 of fake currency in the market. According to the police case on May 17 last, one Yash Paul lodged a report to the police post Sidhra with the allegation that Rashpaul Singh had paid him two currency notes of 500 denomination as labour charges which were later on found to be of fake currency. On this report, a case u/s 489-B RPC was registered and during the course of investigation the involvement of Showkat and Shakeel Ahmed, both brothers, was established. During investigation it was further found that Shakeel Ahmed was in constant touch with Ghulam Ahmed and Mohammed Islam, both residents of District Nadia, West-Bengal to procure counterfeit from said persons, which was later on to be given to accused Puran Chand and some other persons in order to circulate the counterfeit currency as genuine in the market by means of purchasing articles from Reheriwalas. The accused Purna Chand had taken Rs one lakh from Shakeel Ahmed, of which Rs 30,000 was circulated by him in the market whereas Rs 70,000 had been handed over by him to Jang Bhadur and Satpal. CJM, after hearing CPO Mr. MA Manhas appearing for the state and the counsel for the accused, observed that allegations against all the accused persons mentioned in the police report, including the accused Puran Chand, are very serious in nature and the alleged act of the accused by using counterfeit currency as genuine certainly amounts to destabilizing the economy of the country and more particularly in J&K State which is already suffering from economic development. CPO has informed that one of the main accused in the case Ghulam Ahmed from West-Bengal has been arrested and at present he is lodged in police custody, his custodial interrogation will unravel the truth about the role of every person involved in the crime. CJM said in view of the facts and circumstances of the case and without going into merits of case in great detail, the application filed by the accused for grant of bail deserves no consideration at this stage and is accordingly dismissed.
