Congress encourages separatism for their narrow political ends, alleges Gupta
6/30/2007 12:01:03 AM
Jammu | June 29
Taking serious exception to the statement of the J&K PCC Chief, Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed, at its party convention at Srinagar that the sanctity of Article- 370 would be maintained, the former Union Minister and a senior BJP leader Prof .Chaman Lal Gupta today alleged that for their narrow political ends the Congress was encouraging separatism and harming the unity of the country and the national interests.
Commenting upon the Congress stand, Prof. Gupta alleged that this statement of PCC Chief was contrary to the spirit of the Constitution as the provision of Article 370 itself reads as temporary and more so, is the negation of solemn statement made by the then Prime Minister, Late Jawahar Lal Nehru.
Prof. Gupta described this provision as a “big folly and root cause of separatism in Jammu and Kashmir” as also many ills endangering the very unity of the country.
Terming this so-called special status of the state by virtue of this Article as a mirage, he said under this status, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are being deprived of the many rights enjoyed by the Indians in rest of the country.
Taking advantage of this provision of the constitution a large number of people including the refugees from Pak/Pok have been deprived of their fundamental and basic human rights, he alleged
Prof. Gupta impressed upon all the right thinking people to raise their voice against the slogans and utterances of the Congress leaders who are more interested in their vote bank politics rather than opting for a nationalistic outlook. The voice of autonomy, self-rule and retention of Article 370 are nothing but are being guided by communal outlook which had led to the sad partition of the country in 1947and creation of theoretic state of Pakistan, he asserted.
