| NC registers symbolic protest in Srinagar | | | Yes nobody should expect the main oppo sition National Conference to sing songs in praise of the completion of 100 days by the BJP-PDP coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir. In fact it is the job of the opposition to highlight the failure of the Government,if there are any.It is the job of the opposition to highlight the problems of people because there can never be an end to the difficulties of people and that too in a sensitive state like Jammu and Kashmir. And the National Conference lived up to its role when it organized an anti-Government rally in Srinagar on Saturday. It was a symbolic rally because the NC leaders, workers and the party supporters did not cover more than 500 metres of distance.. Hence it was a symbolic rally not on the pattern of the Kashmiri separatists who travel miles together to voice their anger and to register their presence.Well credit should be given to Omar Abdullah and his senior party colleagues who have been able to hold the party flock together unlike that of the state unit of the Congress which has started facing ruptures and splits.Credit should be given to senior NC leaders who were able to motivate several thousand party workers and supporters to join the rally where the party leaders, especially Omar Abdullah, talked about the glaring failures of the PDP-BJP coalition Government. Thousands of National Conference workers and activists led by former Chief Minister and the Party Working President Omar Abdullah marched from Regal Chowk to historic Clock Tower in Lal Chowk to "highlight the failures" of Mufti Mohd.Syeed led government on its completion of 100 days in office. Abdullah also addressed the massive gathering at Regal Chowk and spoke about the "failures of BJP-PDP coalition government".Carrying flags of the party, the workers shouted slogans like "yaen aav Mufti Tan aayi sakhti" (Life got tough since Mufti took over) to express their dismay over the failure of the government to mitigate the sufferings of common man hit hard by deluge of last year.Well Omar Abdullah headed the Government when various parts of Kashmir valley, especially the district of Srinagar were hit by unprecedented floods. What did the NC-Congress coalition Government did when severl thousand people fell victim to the flood fury nd scores of people lost their lives in floods and landslides in the state ? Nothing specific.Well for several days top NC and Congress leaders, including several ministers and legislators, remained absent from the scene of devastation. The previous Government had no resources of its own for providing relief and compensation to the flood affected families.Whatever relief and compensation was provided to the flood hit people was from the central Government which arranged massive rescue operations.Apart from the failure of the previous NC-Congress coalition Government in handling the flood problem the alliance Government has set a new record in poor governance where even the new employment package formulated by Omar Abdullah led Government failed to provide jobs to the educated youth. The result was the total number of unemployed youth registered in employment exchanges rose to over six lakhs. In fact if the National Conference lost power and the Congress was mauled in the Assembly election it was mainly owing to peoples' anger against the poor performance of the NC-Congress coalition Government. There are many who believe that the PDP-BJP coalition Government has inherited a difficult legacy from the previous NC-Congress Government and it is not possible for the PDP-BJP coalition Government to mitigate the piled up problems of people in 100 days. Can one expect the PDP_BJP Government to shown results which the NC-Congress coalition Government failed to show in six years ? Yes,the PDP-BJP coalition Government has remained engaged in resolving their ideological problems and time has come for the Mufti led Government to show results.Let the two keep their ideological differences under the carpet and take initiatives for revamping the state's economy and improve its security and political scenario. |
