Against the 69 positive cases of Pf (Plasmodium felciporum) the strenuous efforts to eradicate malaria has confined the dangerous side the Pf to only eight, claimed records. As per the official records submitted to the central authorities of the total blood samples tested for the malaria that is 396938 only 164 were tested positive with 8 cases founded positive for Pf. Sources in the health department claimed that endevour started with an aim to eradicate malaria from within the state having a tough topography and terrain has given a assertive outcome. They said that the closing of the ‘National Malaria Eradication Month’ have a brought this fact to people that state is marching towards winning side as far as the eradication of the disease is concerned. Sources further said that though the malaria vector is not found throughout the state but occur only in pockets like Jammu, Kathua, Poonch Rajouri, Udhampr, Doda and Baramulla Kupwara and the strenuous efforts to put curb to this health hazards has successfully managed to control the menacing vector and reducing the number of malaria victims in the state. Sources boastfully substantiate their claims by furnishing details supported with the statistics reports said that in the year 1996, only 69 Pf cases were detected of the total 14220 positive cases of Pv (Plasmodium vivcas) cases while this has been reduced to merely eight early this year as per reports submitted to central nodal authorities with only 158 positive cases detected against Pv. However sources expressed their concerns over the pattern followed by the malaria disease graph which followed a ‘see saw pattern’ in the last decade since the 1996. “As per the records the Pf cases have shown a mysterious trend of ups and downs in the last decade, starting from 69 in 1996, it came down to 18 in 1998 surprisingly swelled to 37 next year in 1999 then declined to 10 only in 2002 and to 08 in next year. The cases of Pf also showed a swelling trend again first they touched 11 in 2004 and then 18 in 2005 while it again marked a declining pattern and recorded 08 in 2006. Statistics recorded that during the 125208 total blood samples collection Jammu the 42 cases tested positive four were detected as Pf, from 54531 tested in Kathua only 16 were detected positive with one for Pf, in Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch and Doda blood samples tested for disease 79628, 46225, 40830 and 47186 with 28,24,40 and three cases tested positive for Pv respectively with no case detected for Pf. The reports also revealed that Baramulla Kupowara failed to prove data with Urban Malaria Center Programme (UMCP), collected blood samples 3330 and detected 03 tested for Pf or the 11 diagnosed as positive for malaria.
