| Two militants killed in encounter | | |
SRINAGAR, JUNE 30 Two militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir today. Acting on specific information about the presence of militants, police and troops of Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off Guldachan-Sarkuli village of Kalaroos in the district, Senior Superintendent of Police (Kupwara) Vijay Kumar said. The militants hiding there opened fire on the security forces who retaliated, killing the ultras, he said. Two AK rifles were recovered from the slain militants, he said adding their identity was being ascertained. Meanwhile, police picked up the bullet-riddled body of 26-year-old Ali Mohammad Sheikh from outside a brick kiln at Pingligom village in Pulwama district, a police spokesman said. Sheikh, a resident of the same village and owner of a poultry farm, had been abducted by militants last evening and killed, the spokesman said.
