| BJP tells Patil: Abandon policies that help terrorism | | | Jammu: BJP State president Ashok Khajuria today strongly urged the visiting Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to realize the gravity of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and abandon all those policies which are overtly and covertly helping the cause of the militants and separatists. He said the BJP, to start with, demands that the working group reports which have only provided for one concession after another for the militants and orphans and widows of the slain militants and those armed militants who have been operating from PoK be rejected outright, and added that such an action on the part of the Union Government would send right signal to those indulging in subversive activities in the state. Ashok Khajuria also drew the attention of the Union Home Minister to the alarming situation as it prevails in the vital Pirpanjal range where the militants and the separatists have established their strangle hold forcing the minority Hindu not to perform their social ceremonies, including marriage, as per the Hindu religious and social rituals. He told the Union Home Minister that the entire Pirpanjal range has been converted by the militants into a liberated zone, with the state law and order authorities either watching the militant activities in the area as mute spectators or not performing their duties to rid the area of all the militants. He also said that most of the members of the minority community have already fled from the areas to save their lives and those who are still there are planning to migrate to the safer areas. Ashok Khajuria held the ruling coalition in the state as well as at the centre directly responsible for vitiating the atmosphere in the state by painting the Indian army and para-military forces black and anti-terror laws as unwanted. He said had the Union Government and the State Government not gone by the parties like the PDP, the things in the state would have been totally different and there would have been peace. He advised the Union Home Minister that it is time the army and para-military forces are given a free hand to tackle militancy and parties like the PDP thrown out lock stock and barrel.
