| Sunken road draws flak | | | Jammu | June 30 Work culture as clamored by the coalition government has once again come under question with the submerging of the recently repaired patch of road at city’s busiest square; Indira Chowk. The sinking of the recently repaired Nallah flowing under road has raised the finger of suspicion over the working of the concerned agency. Though the officials taking immediate action ordered reconstruction of the sunken segment of the road and covered it with a mocking sign ‘Road under repair, inconvenience regretted.’ Worth to mention that this sunken road recently has been commissioned for the normal road traffic after repairing of the patch at Indira Chowk hardly a month ago has come down just after a moderate down pour. ‘Though it has resulted into difficulties for the commuters; it has also put the concerned department under fire and its accountability for the said work under question, some said. Locals and traders of the locality encircling the huge pit enveloped with the tin sheets and the sand bags questioned the quality of the products used for the construction. They said, “the sinking of the this portion has open up discrepancies within the PWD department and its functioning for the development works including the material used. The said portion is to be worked upon for the third time in a year, now. They said that the PWD department has spent a lot of money on the repair work which was carred only from upper side while construction from inner side of the nallah was not done. It was due to this that every time there is a light to moderate rain the road gets damages. ‘PWD department always after spending thousand of rupees fill that portion of road by laying tarcoal over the road, some said. The concerning department spend a lot of money on the construction of the road but yet they have not find the permanent solution or the reason of caving of the road at the square, said Ashok a resident of adjoining Indira Chowk. All attempts to take comments from PWD officials turned futile.
