| Chadder laid at Chrar-e-Sharief Ziarat | | Governor performs Pratham Puja, Amarnath Yatra begins | |
AMARRNATH JULY 1- The two-month long Shri Amarnathji Yatra commenced this morning with Governor, Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha performing Pratham Pooja in the Holy Cave amid chanting of Mantras. The yatra, formally scheduled to start yesterday, had to be deferred for a day because of incessant rains. Thousands of devotees chanting Bum Bum Bole kept traversing rugged terrain from Baltal and Chandanwari to reach the Cave Shrine and hundreds were in queue since early morning adjacent to the sanctum sanctorum to join the Governor in Pratham Pooja. He performed a special pooja in the spiritual ambience of the shrine, rediscovered by a Muslim shepherded hundreds of years ago. Union Home Minister, Mr Shivraj Patil also paid obeisance at the cave shrine this morning. Immediately after performing the pooja, the Governor flew in to Chrar-e-Sharief and paid obeisance in the revered Ziarat of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani. He prayed for peace and tranquility in the State at the Amarnath Shrine and Ziarat of Sheikh-ul-Alam. For the past five years, the Governor has been paying obeisance at the Shrine at Chrar-e-Sharief after performing pooja at the Amarnath cave shrine. The management of the ziarat performed Dastarbandi on the Governor At the Holy Cave, the Governor, who is also the Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, the Governor sat for a while with world-renowned spiritual guru, Murari Bapu, whose week-long Katha concluded today. In a message to the pilgrims, the Governor wished them a successful yatra and said that necessary arrangements have been made for their stay at various camps. He said that the shrine board in conjunction with other agencies of the government has taken elaborate measures for smooth conduct of the yatra. He also lauded the hospitality and warmth of the people of Kashmir for extending all facilities to the pilgrims. The Governor conferred with the high officials of the administration, security forces and the shrine board and took stock of the arrangements made for the pilgrims. Principal Secretary to Governor and Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, Dr Arun Kumar and General Officer Commanding, Victor Force, Maj General R K Bhardwaj were also accompanying the Governor. In Budgam, the management of the Ziarat projected several problems to the Governor and sought their immediate redressal. He assured them that he will ask the State Government to consider these on priority. He also visited the site of the grand mosque and was briefed about the construction programme. He said the Army will not be asked to take up any work in the shrine. He also saw the shelter shed built up by the army which has a capacity to accommodate a large number of devotees.
