| Policeman killed in encounter with militants | | |
JAMMU, JULY 1
A policeman was killed in an encounter with militants in Doda district today, official sources said.
He was identified as Constable Abdul Rasheed of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP).
The encounter started yesterday when militants fired on a police patrol party from a local mosque in Dali (Kulhand) in Doda district, injuring five policemen, they said.
The encounter was still going on when reports last came in, they said, adding that militants numbering over five have taken shelter in two houses around the mosque.
The body of Rasheed was lying in the house of Bashir Ahmed, where the militants have taken shelter, they said adding that army too have rushed to area.
Militants had massacred 31 Hindus in the Kulhand area of Doda district on May 1 last year.
