| 3 Militants, cop killed in encounter | | |

In a 24 hour long encounter Doda Police and Army succeeded in eliminating the three dreaded militants holed up in a double story house in Kulhand area today. One selection grade constable namely Ab. Rashid No: 321.AP 13th Bn. S/o Khurshid Mohd. R/o Ram Nagar Udhampur achieved martyrdom by sacrificing his life. The Sgct Abdul Rashid was killed on spot during the previous intervening night. He hailed from Ramkote area of Tehsil Ramnagar but was presently residing near Peer Baba, Satwari, Jammu. His body was dispatched to his native village in Ramkote, where he would be cremated with full police honours.
Five constable SPOs were injured in the encounter. Two seriously injured were rushed to GMC Jammu for specialized medicare. One of them has been identified as Romesh Kumar S/o Krishan lal R/o Kulhand. The militant of LeT outfit has been identified as Abu Sohail Asgan S/o Subhan ittoo R/o Doda. He had been active in the Kulhund area for the last six years. He was also involved in the Kulhund massacre on April 30, 2006 when 20 villagers of the minority community were gunned down and same number of others suffered bullet injuries. Senior army and police officers including Sector commander (Brigadier) Commanding Officer 8th RR, SSP Doda Manohar Singh and SP Operation Doda Arif Rishu had been camping in the area since yesterday and participating actively in the operation.
