| Hundreds join BJP | | | Jammu: In an impressive “Parivartan Rally”, organized by the Jammu West Mandal of BJP at Rajpura Park, Surjit Choudhary alias Pappu Choudhary of ward No. 43 (Nanak Nagar), Tripta Jamwal and Vikas Verma of Ward No. 28 (Gurah-Chabeeliyan) and Sulakshana Devi of Ward No. 17 (Pucca Talab), along with their hundreds of supporters, embraced BJP in presence of State President Ashok Khajuria, former Union MoS and senior leader of BJP Chaman Lal Gupta and district president Kavinder Gupta. Earlier, two-minute silence was observed by the party leaders and the gathering for the peace of the departed soul of BJP national leader Saheb Singh Verma who met with an accident and left this world yesterday. The portrait of Verma was garlanded by the party leaders on the occasion. Khajuria, in his address, charged the Congress-led coalition of treating the Hindus, Sikhs and SCs as second class citizens. In this context, he stated that the refugees from West Pakistan have not been granted citizenship rights only because most of them are Hindus, Sikhs and members of SC community. Had these refugees been Muslims, parties like PDP, NC and Congress would not have dared to oppose the bill introduced in the last session of assembly which sought to grant citizenship rights to them. Almost three generations of these refugees have perished fighting for grant of citizenship rights but no one cared to listen to them. The only crime of these helpless refugees is that they are Hindus, Sikhs and SCs. He said the plight of the refugees from PoK, refugees of 1965 and 1971 is no different. They too are fighting for proper rehabilitation and compensation but who cares. Ashok Khajuria also took the Congress and its leaders to task for betraying the people of Jammu region. He said the people of even Jammu city also got misled and created history by returning three MLAs to the state assembly with high hopes. What these three MLAs, all of them who were ministers, devoted their energy in making money and constructing bungalows but never thought of doing something for the people. He also criticized the successive state governments of denying rights of ownership to all those in Jammu region who are in possession of Custodian Properties since 1947. Terming the CM’s repeated slogan of ending corruption as a mere eye wash, Ashok Khajuria said that booking clerks, JEs, AEEs or patwaris cannot get the state rid of corruption. If the CM is really committed to end corruption, he should not hesitate in booking the big fishes. The CM should direct the State Vigilance Organization to look into the property statements of all the MLAs submitted in the year 2002, compare them with that of today and start legal proceedings against all such MLAs who are found to be in possession of properties disproportionate to their known sources. Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, terming the 6-year rule of BJP-led NDA at the centre as Golden Period in the Indian History, said that BJP wave is gaining momentum throughout the country as the people, after comparing the 6-year rule of NDA with that of Congress-led UPA, have realized that it is only the BJP which is committed to the cause of every Indian and strengthening the nationalist forces. He said the BJP, right from the days of Jana Sangh and later Praja Parishad has been fighting for full integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country. The BJP do not believe in making promises. Who is not aware of the supreme sacrifice of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, who opposed provision of entry system and separate flag, separate constitution and separate Prime Minister for the state. On the price rise, Prof. Gupta said that even the staunch supporters of Congress are holding Congress responsible for steep rise in the prices of essential commodities, insecurity, unemployment etc. He said the price rise is the result of such policies of the Congress which have been framed to suit the big business houses, hoarders and black marketers. He also took the state CM to task for claiming to be of Jammu but knowing nothing about the problems and needs of the people of Jammu region. Be it Ghulam Nabi Azad or any other Congress leader, Kashmir is more important for them. He said the fate of much publicized rupees 24 crores is not known. The government should tell the people on what schemes such a huge amount has been spent. He warned the government to desist from taking militant-friendly and anti-national forces pleasing decisions and added that if adequate and effective measures are not taken to curb the militancy, members of Hindu community will be left with no other option but to migrate to safer places to save their lives. Kavinder Gupta, while addressing the gathering, gave details of a number of works undertaken during his tenure as first mayor of JMC.
