Commoners suffer for a drop of water’
7/1/2007 11:27:56 PM

DODA, JULY 1- It may look incredible but it a fact that while the commoner is crying for a drop of water, the influential ones enjoy it like anything. If the reports are to be believed majority of the consumers have been provided two to three water connections in Bhaderwah town while the commoners in and around the town have been deprived even of a single connection.
According to the current estimates nearly 55 per cent connections in the town are illegal and despite complaints by the commoners the authorities have not bothered to lay their hands as those having these illegal connection yield influence in the corridors of power..
The sources said that people from the very beginning have been raising this issue at the appropriate forums but regrettably the illegal connections continued putting the commoners to inconvenience and the department as a whole to loss.
Sources informed that the PHE authorities have complete information about the illegal water connections of some influential persons but they failed to take any strict action in this regard which clearly exposes the Chief Minister slogan of work culture and accountability. On one side the poor villagers of the Bhaderwah are suffering with the shortage of water supply and on the other side some blue-eyed persons have two to three illegal connections and the authorities are watching the situation as mute spectators, said one Kufitullah Mughal, a resident of Bhaderwah.
Sources further informed that last year the PHE authorities launched a drive against the illegal water connection holders and achieve a big success, but when they reached other localities where influential peoples were residing they with out any reason stopped the drive. Areas like Udrana, Gatha, Chobia and some parts of the town have legal connections, but a majority of the population have illegal connections says Koshal Dogra, senior leader of the town.
When contacted the Assistant Executive Engineer PHE confirmed that some people have illegal connection and maintained that a drive is being launched soon against the illegal water connection holders.
