| Amarnath yatra: High leve probe demanded behind melting of ice lingam | | |
Jammu, July 2 A day after senior officials of Shri Amarnath shrine board confirmed the reports of melting of ice lingam at Amarnath cave shrine large number of religious and social organizations collectively raised their voice while demanding a high level probe in to the circumstances leading to precarious situation. It may be mentioned that the shrine board authorities had earlier confirmed that the 12 ft high ice lingam,naturally formed this year melted away due to rise in temperature and termed it a natural phenomenon. Unhappy with the approach adopted by the shrine board authoritiesvis-a-vis allowing VVIPs. and allowing usage of helicopters near the cave shrine various religious and social bodies expressed their concern over the manner in which the yatra was being organized since very beginning this year. Leading the charge against the shrine board from the front the President of the Shri Amarnath yatra Welfare orgnisation Rajinder Sharma viewed it as serious interference with the religious affairs of the majority community.Donot interfere in the religious maters, you extend only logistics suppor and leave aside the job of fixing the tenure of yatra to religious heads. Demanding a high level inquiry behind early melting of naturally formed ice lingam inside cave shrine in Amarnath, Sharma he said the shrine board authorities should not interfere in the religious matters related to Amarnath yatra and in future should restrict their role to arranging merely logistic support ensuring hassle free yatra for lakhs of pilgrims. Sharma also circulated name of Mahant Deepender Giri of Dashnami Akhara to head the religious group to be entrusted with the job of facilitating annual pilgrimage in tandem with shri Amarnath shrine board authorities.He said, Mahanat Deepnder Giri is the right person to handle such religious matters and his services should be utlised to set right the schedul eof the yatra.
