3000 Militants waiting acros LOC to infiltrate in to indian territory: army
7/3/2007 12:23:23 AM

Srinagar , Jul 02
While the number of militant attacks in Kashmir has drastically come down and the number of militants operating in Kashmir valley has been limited to a few hundred, Army today claimed that three thousand militants were waiting to cross over to this side of line of control from Muzaffarabad in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

The statement comes three days before Defense secretary's visit to Jammu and Kashmir for examining the possibility of relocation of troops in J&K.

Basing his statistics on intelligence inputs, Brigadier N P K Hira of 12 Briade said that two thousand of them were foreigners while the rest of them were Kashmiri militants. "The incidents that took place in Uri along the line of control clearly indicate that infiltration has gone up," Brigadier Hira said.

"We have information about five training camps around Muzaffarabad – Gari Habibullah, Jangal Mangal, Boyi, Marsera and Khewari – that are situated opposite to our area of operation in Uri. There are around 821 Kashmiri terrorists in these training camps waiting to cross over to this side," the Brigadier said, adding that the militants were well trained in combat. The Brigadier said that the information revealed by him was only about certain camps while there were 52 camps in total where militants were being trained.

The brigadier added that the number was in addition to the "1500-2000 foreign terrorists" that are ready to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir over the next few months. "This is also evident from the fact that three attempts of infiltration took place in the last one week only in Uri sector which has otherwise rarely seen any infiltration over the past few years," Brigadier Hira said.

Stating that most of the Kashmiri militants belonged to the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant group, Brigadier Hira said that "other terrorist organizations like Jamiyat-ul-Mujahideen and Al-Badr had lost morale to fight any more battles.

The brigadier, however, added that several trained militants had also got disillusioned due to the attitude of the Pakistan and were willing to come back and like a normal life.

Brigadier Hira further added that Hizb-ul-Mujahideen was still recruiting youth for filling its ranks and sending them for arms training in Pakistan Administered Kashmir. (KIP)
