| ‘12.27 crore sale target of Handicraft goods’ | | | Srinagar, July 3 (INFO) –Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Dr. Romesh Chander has said that Government has initiated numerous measures to rejuvenate the traditional handicrafts of the State and explore its marketing facilities which is a source of livelihood for a big chunk of population. He said that funds to the tune of Rs.18 crore have been released through Jammu and Kashmir Handicraft Corporation for establishment of infrastructural facilities like Common Facility Centre, Craft Development Institute of Carpet Technology at Baghi Ali Marden Khan Srinagar and Urban Haats at Jammu and Srinagar. Inaugurating the Handicraft Trade Expo-2007 at Kashmir Haat here today, the Minister said that basic aim behind such exhibitions is to provide opportunity to the artisans to sell their products without any intermediary. He said several steps have been taken to provide better training and marketing facility to the artisans. He urged for setting up of orientation camps for artisans at various places across the state to acquaint them with the latest trends and designs. He said a project worth Rs. 3 crore is under execution for revival of world famous Kanni Shawl. The Minister directed that one such exhibition should also be organized at Jammu in view of ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra so that the yatries get quality products of Kashmir handicrafts. He said that 10 Industrial Estate would be set up in the state to give more fillip to the industrial sector across the state which is a key to tackle the unemployment.
