Azad inspects Chutak power project, Asks NHPC to accelerate pace of work
Fixes deadline of September for completion of bridges and roads of project

Kargil, August 10 – Chief Minister Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad today visited Chutak hydel project on Suru river in Kargil the foundation stone of which was laid by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh last year.
Chief Minister was informed by the Chief Engineer NHPC that the work is going on in full swing on 44 MW hydel project with four turbines. He asked the construction corporation to work round the clock keeping in view the shorter working season available in Kargil.
Chief Minister was informed that work on construction of bridges and approach roads which are part of the infrastructure of the project is going on speedily. The project involves a cost of Rs 675 crore.
Mr Azad kept a deadline for NHPC to construct the bridge by first week of September when he would again visit the area to monitor completion of bridges and roads, which is the first phase of the project.
Chief Minister was accompanied by Minister for Transport and Ladakh Affairs Mr Mangat Ram Sharma, Social Welfare Minister Haji Nissar Ali, Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil Mr Asgar Ali Karbalaie, legislators, Chief Secretary Mr C. Phunsog besides councilors and other senior officers during the visit.
On the occasion, Haji Nissar Ali and Mr Karbalaie expressed their thanks to Chief Minister that in Kargil and in other parts of the district, electricity is available for 24 hours.
Mr Azad said that for development of any area, generation of electricity is necessary and he is confident that with the commissioning of Chutak hydel project Kargil will also enter into the phase of industrialization.
Chief Minister also visited middle school building at Mungigund. The school building has been made on bamboo and steel structure costing Rs 19 lakh, of which 70 per cent amount has been provided by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.
Earlier, there was no building for the school and within two days structure was raised and students started utilizing five spacious classrooms for their studies.
On this occasion, a group of respected women of Kargil met Chief Minister and expressed their gratitude for his personal interest in the development of the district. They requested that a craft center be established near the school where they could contribute their talent.
Chief Minister on-the-spot conceded the demand and asked the Deputy Commissioner Kargil to open the center immediately for giving opportunity to the women to display and promote their talent.
