Mehbooba Mufti to Ghussa Kyoon Aata Hai …….?
PDP chief accuses Azad government of delaying development in Kashmir
7/5/2007 12:00:47 AM

NIRBHAY JAMMUAL
Jammu, July 4: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti is these days deeply irked over the manner in which the Ghulam Nabi Azad led government and particularly the health ministry headed by senior Congress leader Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma is working.
Interestingly, the reason for this irritation is about spending more funds on the Jammu based Government Medical College Hospital and Indira Gandhi Dental College. She has sought from the government details of expenditure spent on health projects to find out the relative amount of quantum spent on Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
Addressing a public meeting at Badgam today, while Mehbooba lashed out at the Azad led government but the focus of her references remained on delay of works on some projects on different parts of Kashmir Valley. She said the Government must also make the public aware of the details of where the Rs 20 crore released by HUDCO for the completion of pending hospital buildings in the State are being spent by the Health Department. Without naming Jammu, she said, "there are reports that the whole money is being spent on the completion of some particular hospital buildings leaving the other areas of the State high and dry," she lamented.
Even though there is a silent dissent in Jammu region for no major developmental initiative to undo the regional imbalance, but Mehbooba accused the Azad government for poor development pace in Kashmir.
Making an elaborate list of projects, which according to her have been delayed in Kashmir, Mehbooba said, “for some time now, it seems not only has been the peace and reconciliation process put in a reverse gear, but even some vital developmental projects taken up by the PDP-led Government have been put on hold, for unknown reasons”. "Whether it is commissioning of Baglihar Power Project, construction of Sawlakote Power Project, construction of Mughal Road, setting up of Dhirubhai Ambani IT University at Srinagar, upgradation of Srinagar International Airport, laying of Udhampur-Qazigund railway line, construction of seven flyovers in Srinagar city, beautification of river Jehlum banks, beautification of Eidgah, upgradation of Airport Road or construction of buildings for North and South Campuses of the Kashmir University, all these projects seem to have been put in a go slow mood," she said and added that the people have the right to know the reasons behind the inordinate delay in the execution of these projects. She also called for speeding up the work on the development of Dodhpathri and Tosa Maidan as new tourist resorts.
