Hakeem underlines need for creating self-financing assets in Budgam district

Srinagar, August 10 –State Government is contemplating to introduce a new scheme “Urban infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns” (UIDSSMT) in the state for strengthening basic infrastructure of the Municipal Committees. The scheme envisages better sewerage and drainage facilities, construction of link roads and slaughter houses, drinking water and power supply besides other civic facilities to the people.
This was stated here today at a high level officers meeting chaired by the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen. The meeting was convened by the Minister to take review of the civic facilities being provided to the people in Municipal Committees of Charari-Shraief, Beerwa, Khansahib and Budgam.
The meeting was told that the proposed plan is being formulated and would be submitted to the central government for approval and accord of funds.
The Minister underlined the need for creating assets on self financing pattern so that regular income generating sources are developed. He stressed to remove the illegal encroachments from the state land available in the concerned committees and its better maintenance so that source of income is created. He directed to launch cleanliness drive to the Municipal Committees of Budgam district to provide suitable environment to the inhabitants. He said government released about Rs. 40 lakhs to the Budgam, Beerwa, Charie-Sharief, and Khanshaib municipal committees during current financial year for construction of lanes, drains, beautification of towns and providing other civic amenities to the people. He directed for fencing of 1300 kannals of government land available to Khanshaib municipal committee to make its best use for generating regular income.
The meeting also deliberated upon setting up of office accommodation for newly created sub division at Khanshaib.
The Minister said that coalition government is committed to all-round development of the state particularly under developed areas. He asked the officers to expedite work on going schemes for their early completion.
The meeting was informed that the municipal committee Budgam has realized an income of Rs. 19 lakh during past four months while as the committee has already completed a shopping complex consisting upon 70 shops in the town at a cost of Rs. 1.53 crore.
