| Dogri Sanstha demands ‘Dogri language as a Subject’ in colleges | | |
Jammu July 5 Dogri Sanstha, the premier organization of Dogri writers, artists and cultural activists have strongly deplored the government’s inaction in introducing Dogri as a subject in the newly opened 14 Degree colleges in Jammu region and described it as yet another sheer discrimination against the students of the region who are being denied their right to study their mother tongue as a subject at college level. Addressing a press conference here today the Sanstha General Secretary regretted that despite inclusion of Dogri language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution, the government has failed to honour its obligation to promote and introduce the language in the schools and colleges. She said that many students of the Dogri speaking regions like, Akhnoor, Ram Nagar, Reasi, Hira Nagar who opted for Dogri language had to wait endlessly for the introduction of the subject but regrettably had to defer their admission for the next session with the hope that the Dogri language would be introduced in the schools and colleges. She said with the callous attitude of the authorities the students have been left in lurch during the current year itself as the Dogri language is yet to be offered as a subject in the colleges in the areas which are pre dominantly populated by Dogras.
