| CCI deputation calls on Chief Com. Income tax | | |
Jammu | July 5 A deputation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by its Sr. Vice President Om Prakash Gupta and secretary general Rajendra Motial called on Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North-West region, Manju Lakhanpal today and apprised her of certain problems being faced by the assesses. Motial told her that Chamber has already written to Union Financer Minister and Chairman Central Board of Direct Taxes with regard to ITR-I to ITR VIII Return forms. Pointing out its infirmities and short comings and wanted that as per the assurances of the UPA Government the procedure of Tax Returns should be simplified. He said that the post of Commissioner Appeals which was sanctioned long ago for J&K state, is stationed at Amritsar causing lot of inconvenience and problems to the assesses of the state, hence the office of Commissioner Appeals should be shifted to Jammu as there is dire need that Tribunal bench should be created here for speedy disposal of the cases. The deputation emphasized her that entire state should be taken as one entity so far as the implementation of rules and laws are concerned, any region should not be discriminated like exemption of interest for late filling of returns and conducting the search and seizure raids selectively raids selectively in one particular region. With regard to Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) to be deducted from the Transport Company or goods carriers attract Rs. 10,000 penalty under section 272-D, in absence of PAN number so at the time of filling the TDS returns the assesses are penalized for no fault of theirs. Others who accompanied the delegation were Narinder Gupta, Ravinder Sawhney, Vikrant Kuitalia, Sanjeev Soni, Sunil Aggarwal and Sanjay Sareen.
