| MELTING OF ICE LINGAM: BD SEEKS CUT IN YATRA PERIOD | | | Jammu, July 6, Bajrang Dal National President Prakash Sharma has accused Jammu and Kashmir government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board authorities for meltdown of ice lingam inside Cave shrine at Amarnath within days after the official start of the annual pilgrimage. Launching a scathing attack on the state government agencies and board authorities, an angry Bajrang Dal leaders told reporters here in Jammu, “ I want to ask the concerned authorities if the official date of start of the yatra was fixed on June 30 who gave the permission to thousands of pilgrims to perform darshan at the cave shrine ahead of schedule.Citing reports of tampering with ice lingam inside cave shrine, Sharma said why movement of these people was not checked by jawans of security agencies and who actually gave them the permission to climb atop the cave shrine and enter the restricted area near the ice lingam. He said the VIP’ s were given preferential treatment and rules were relaxed to allow them to proceed towards cave shrine ahead of the yatra schedule but no responsibility has been fixed by the state govt. Advocating the need to streamline the calender of the yatra, Sharma demanded that instead of two month long calendar the yatra should be held between Guru Purnima and Shravan purnima . He said the state government agencies are fueling controversies related to meltdown of ice lingam to drive home the point that shrine board authorities have failed to organize yatra and the control should be vested with the state government. He said a thorough probe should be ordered to fix the responsibility of concerned authorities.
