| Tuck shop doling tobacco products to sports persons attracts aversions | | | Jammu | July 7
While J&K Sports Authority is claiming strenuous efforts to improve the standard of sports in the state and churning out best of sports persons; the claims are being mocked with just a glance at a little tuck shop emerged ‘illegally’ within sports complex which is doling out products like cigarettes and varieties of chewable tobacco.
‘These products are really harmful for health, selling of these kinds of products inside the stadium premises should not be allowed, Ankush a regular visitor to the M A Stadium said and added, “ I wonder why the authorities have not bothered till date about this corner shop.
Humming the similar tunes Rahul pointed out this shop even has lured many outsiders particularly youths and school goers who come and sit hours together without any fear of being noticed by their family members. “These school goers who already have fallen prey to the various types of addiction bait others in these bad habits too,” he feared.
Sources said that residents residing in the government allotted accommodations inside the premises have complained to the concerned authorities regarding this but they are waiting for the outcome. Secondly some rued that this little tuck shop cum canteen is being illegally run by the owner who runs it due to his close acquaintance with one higher officer in the stadium administration. Sources also mentioned that the authority have not been fair in this case as they have ordered closing down of a teashop owned by one Kuldeep residing in Room No 13 while they failed to take action against this tuck shop that has emerged illegally for a long time and is doling cigarettes and other kinds of chewable tobacco to the visitors of which a majority is below 18 years.
It is to mention that the sale of any type of tobacco product to a person below 18 years of age has been prohibited under law but this tuck shop has set all norms aside and is getting a good harvest from this ideal location.
When contacted, Sports Officer Krishan Sharma also pointed out that the canteen being run within the Sports Complex of the M A Stadium is totally unauthorized but failed to answer why the stadium authorities have not been able to take action against the same.
